Mercadona at San Louis yesterday looked as though it had been attacked by a swarm of ants. There was no toilet paper to be had, no loaves of bread nor any form of fresh meat, only a few cartons of eggs left, very few fresh vegetables even wine and spirits were in short supply.
Meanwhile, in Spar there was an air of calm. The shelves were full and shoppers were buying normal quantities of goods.
People should take heed. Although there are now severe restrictions on opening of public places, shops (at least food shops) will remain open and the supply chain to them will be maintained. If people insist on panic buying then food shops will either have to close or limit the quantities that people buy.
