Of course it isn't just persimons that are in season at this time of year. The dates are ready for picking as well.
Those of you who live here or who have visited will have seen the large bunches of dates hanging from the date palms. They are nothing like the dried fruit that you buy in boxes for Christmas. These are plump and light brown in colour. Once they are cut from the tree they apparently need to ripen for a few days before they are ready for eating.
We like dates but you do get rather a lot on each bunch as you can see!
