In all, I counted five comparsas taking part in last night’s parade. They were dressed as everything from The Wizard of Oz to cockroaches that brought up the rear.
The comparsas were aided by three professional troupes of dancers (actually one troupe were majorettes twirling batons).
It was a splendid effort but I can’t help but recall the times when the town had lots of money to spend. Do any of you remember the giant dragon that came trundling down the road or the genie carrying a young lady on his hand? Best of all though for me was the human palm tree that opened and closed – that was unbelievable.
