Fans of IKEA shops were obviously disappointed when it was ruled that the Rabasa Urbanisation in Alicante was not going to go ahead. There is already an IKEA outside Murcia which, every time we have been there, has been full.
For us, the new store won’t make a lot of difference because we are roughly equidistant from either city but for those who live north of Alicante, the Rabasa store would be more convenient.
Not willing to sit back and take this decision lying down, Alicante Town Hall has now sent a seven-page document to the Valencian Superior Court of Justice in which it appeals the decision to suspend the Rabasa Urbanisation.
The document gets to the point right from the first page where it states: The suspension of the plan will produce some serious repercussions in the municipality, and amongst these is the impossibility for the IKEA company to set itself up in a commercial centre that would guarantee at least two thousand full-time jobs and an equal number of jobs for part-timers
