This big spider that has taken up residence in our garden. We don't know what type it is; even whether it is poisonous or not.
As long as it catches a few of the pesky flies though we don't mind it staying. Sadly, where it is positioned on the lavender it is more likely to catch the tiny bees that visit to collect pollen.
Update:- Pete has identified it as a variety of St. Andrew's Cross spider which are non poisonous and non aggressive.
