Work on the controversial replacement for the CV-95 which will link Orihuela with the coast will not begin until 2009. The 19 kilometre road which will run from between Hurchillo and Bigastro to Los Balcones has a budget of 172.4 million euros.
Throughout the planning process, the route has been the subject of hot debate and protest especially amongst agriculturalists. Consequently work, which was supposed to commence in 2007 has been delayed. In the meantime congestion on the existing road builds up, particularly at peak times.
