Bring in the New Year

 Last night was the turn of the Symphonic Band to play their Christmas Concert. 

They played the traditional pieces they include in such concerts; Spanish carols, the waltz for Mister and Miss to dance to and finally the Radetzky March by Strauss.

This time they also played the pieces that they will present to the judges at the competition for bands in March.

To say that these pieces were challenging is to say the least. In one of the works, the music was so fast I thought their fingers were going to catch fire. 

   

It's April Fools Day in Spain!

Meteo Orihuela has got in on the act by publishing this article on Facebook. 

At last! The project has been approved (see artist's impression) to carry out the long-awaited "Sports City of Orihuela  in the La Pedrera Reservoir. It will be a floating sports centre with a completion period of two years, and will have a soccer field, a basketball court, four tennis courts and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Although most have seen through this joke, some have made indignant comments about the waste of money. Gotcha!!!

Santa's angels

Every year, the motorcycle club organise a Santa ride around the Vega Baja visiting towns along the way. Their aim is to make sure that no child goes without a present at Christmas. It is a sight worth seeing as these burly cyclists with golden hearts ride into town dressed as Santas. 

 

Bah humbug

I read this today and then realised we Brits are NOT in the European Union so we can't vote even though we live in the EU. 

On June 9, 2024, elections to the European Parliament will be held for the next five years. In these elections, nationals of European Union countries who have previously expressed their intention to vote in Spain for these elections will be able to vote. In Spain, in addition to people with Spanish nationality, those from European Union countries who have previously expressed their intention to vote in our country may vote.

Foreign residents in Spain can formally declare their willingness to vote in the European elections via the Internet, by post or in person at City Hall.

Christmas in Bigastro
