A new section to the site

The town’s website has a new section dedicated to the respect and defence of the surroundings of BIGASTRO - our SUSTAINABLE town.

The pages in this section include information about the different areas of sustainability in Bigastro.

  • ‘Campaigns of sensitisation’ - which describes the work of the Town hall in areas like the management of waste and recycling, environmental education in the schools, etc.
  • A section dedicated to the CITTA SLOW project which Bigastro, along with five other Spanish municipalities, takes part in. Being a slow city or “città slow” is more than just living as we lived; it is about maintaining traditions and gastronomy, defending the surroundings, embracing the use of the new technologies and maintaining the signs of identity that define the townsfolk as bigastrenses.
  • In the section on RURAL DEVELOPMENT, there is information about activities such as the Orchards of Leisure initiative, the International Observatory of the Mediterranean Kitchen gardens, the Green Ring etc.
  • Finally, Bigastro participates in several European projects concerned with sustainability e.g. P.A.C. (Political Agrarian Commun), S.P.A.C.E. (System of Environmental and Cultural Protection of the Mediterranean Space) and Voices from the Water.

All this information is available by clicking on this link

PS search the new section and you will find newspaper cuttings including one about the man who grew tomatoes each weighing a whopping 1kgm.
