My neighbour Pepe was recently elected President of the local band and now he has something else to celebrate because the team from his school came third amongst the Spanish entry in the Shell Eco-Marathon race held in Lausitz, Germany.
Pepe teaches motor mechanics at the Instituto de Enseñanza Secundaria (IES) El Palmeral in Orihuela where the students built the car which runs on ethanol. The car was designed to travel 300 kilometres on one litre of the fuel. At the competition in Germany, it managed an incredible 311 kilometres. It makes you wonder what the first team achieved.
Pepe is pictured second from the right in the yellow jacket.
