Water supplies safe

On Wednesday, the environment minister, Cristina Narbona inaugurated the water pump which will bring drinking water from both desalinisation plants in San Pedro del Pinatar to the Vega Baja area.

The water will be delivered to Almoradí, Algorfa, Benejúzar, Benijófar, Bigastro, Daya Nueva, Daya Vieja, Formentera, Guardamar, Jacarilla, Los Montesinos, Orihuela, Orihuela Costa, Pilar de la Horadada, Rafal, Rojales, San Fulgencio, San Miguel de Salinas and Torrevieja.

The pump is included in the huge water supply network which is being built in the Vega Baja area and Murcia.

The water will be pumped to the main water distribution installations in Jacarilla through 29 kilometres of pipes which are currently under construction.

They will distribute the water produced by the desalinisation plants in San Pedro and Torrevieja through the water purifying plants in La Pedrera and in Torrealta along with water stored in reservoirs in Murcia and Los Montesinos.

More than 24 million euros have been invested in the water pump works which are included in the AGUA plan.

Minister Cristina Narbona confirmed that tap water will NOT be cut off this summer despite the serious drought.
