On the 30 anniversary of democracy for local administrations, the Ministry of Economy and Property has published a report which shows the level of debt that city councils in Spain are working with.
The municipality in this region at the top of the list is Bigastro with a debt per inhabitant of 842 Euros. Bigastro is followed by Daya Vieja at 764 Euros per inhabitant and thirdly Guardamar del Segura at 671 Euros per inhabitant.
The City council of Orihuela comes out relatively well with a debt of 331 Euros per inhabitant and Torrevieja's debt is also below the average at 514 Euros per citizen.
The City councils that come out well are Formentera del Segura, Granja de Rocamora y Redován with no debt at all. Other town halls, which are doing well are San Isidro, San Miguel, Rojales, Rafal, Jacarilla, Coxswain, Benejúzar and Benferri.
It seems that the new Mayor of Bigastro and the council have a lot of work to do to bring Bigastro back to solvency.
