Who do you fancy?

The Tour de France starts today with the 15.5km time trial Monaco to Monaco

Of course last year’s winner, Carlos Sastre starts as number one for the Cervelo Test Team. Others to watch are Cadel Evans in the Silence-Lotto team, the Schleck brothers - Andy and Frank in Team Saxo Bank and Denis Menchov for Rabobank. British hopes are pinned on Mark Cavendish for Team Columbia and Bradley Wiggins and David Millar riding for Garmin- Slipstream but favourites - team wise - must be Astana with 2007 winner Alberto Contador and seven times tour winner Lance Armstrong who makes a return this year after a four year rest.

The Spaniard, Contador, is team leader for Astana but of course if Armstrong starts winning stages, that may change.

One thing for sure there will be lots of drama, plenty of action and a long wait until the gruelling last week and stage 20 Montélimar – Mont Ventoux to find out who will eventually rise to the podium on the Champs-Élysées.

My money is on either Sastre of Contador. After loosing to USA in the Confederation Cup and Nadal pulling out of Wimbledon, Spain needs a sporting win to raise the spirits.
