On a cordial note yesterday, the mayor asked us if there were any special fiestas that we Brits celebrated. Well the Irish celebrate St Patrick’s day and the Welsh St David’s Day. The English should celebrate St George’s Day but even in England, very few bother.
The only examples I could bring to mind were the forthcoming Royal Wedding between William and Katherine and the Royal Jubilee next year. However, I can’t imagine that we will be collectively celebrating either of those. I dare say the Resident’s Committee might have done something for those two events but since that committee no longer exists, I don’t suppose anything will be organised.
As one resident remarked, now that we live in Bigastro, we are quite happy to join in with the celebrations for local fiestas. We are more than happy to continue with our contributions to the Gastronomic Day in August.
