Alonso has a lot to answer for

I mentioned the problem of motorists speeding on the countries roads yesterday. The Catalan Autonomous Government have conducted a survey and claim that 15% of drivers regularly exceed the speed limits on the regions roads.

The worst example they found was the  route between Sax and Castalla (CV-80), a road with very little traffic. The average speed there is between 113 and 120 kilometres per hour with 15% of drivers travelling at between 134 and 141 kilometres per hour and some even reaching 166 kilometres per hour.

Even in built up areas, for example the road between Alicante and Elche Park (CV 86) drivers top 114 kilometres per hour and on the road from San Vicente del Raspeig to  Sant Joan d'Alacant (CV-821) which has roundabouts and pedestrian crossings folks clock up 95 kilometres per hour.

The  Conselleria de Infraestructuras say there is little that they can do to prevent drivers form speeding on these roads. Maybe they need more speed cameras to catch them.
