You won't be surprised to learn that last month was the wettest October this century in the Valencian Community. The average of 180 litres per square metre was more than than the region has had in twelve months and 2 and half times the norm.
Pego and Adubia in the La Marina Alta had the most rain with 700 litres per square metre followed by Villalonga with 600 litres per square metre.
These precipitations mean that the dams of the Marina Baja de la Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar (CHJ) begin the winter with excellent reserves. The dam at Guadalest is at 71.22% of its capacity. The one of Amadorio is over half full and Beniarrés, is at 56% capacity. This is good news and ends the three year period of droughts ; 2004- 2006.
The other good news is that, unlike in 2007, this rain this year has produced minimal damage. Lat year the bridge at Beniarbeig on the Girona river was demolished by the floodwater.
The areas with least rain in the community were Alicante (25 litres per square metre), El Altet (35) and Orihuela (40).
