The twenty five years that José Joaquín Moya spent as councillor and mayor of Bigastro ended at 1:30pm yesterday. The meeting, which lasted less than three and a half minutes was attended by councillors from both parties along with members of the press and a handful of citizens from the town.
In the press conference that followed, Inmaculada Martínez said that since 1983 Moya had transformed Bigastro putting the town before his own family and personal interests. She said that he was an excellent person who believed that coexistence and respect were a life philosophy.
The process of appointing a successor now begins. With only 5 seats on the council it is unlikely that this will be someone from the PP party. The two most likely candidates are Inmaculada Martínez and Raúl Valerio.
