According to some sources, the document that the mayor Jose Joaquin Moya sent offering his resignation may not be valid because it was delivered by a third party - José Pérez Grau, Secretary of the Subdelegación del Gobierno en Alicante.
Pérez Grau produced the resignation document and then took it to cell where Moya had been kept. The mayor then signed the document and added his DNI number to show that it was authentic. Pérez Grau then delivered the document to Inmaculada Martínez at the Ayuntamiento in Bigastro.
