The 1st of November is All Saints Day when people from the village visit the cemetery to remember their past friends and relatives.
November 2005 we went along to see the floral tributes that people had been taking the day before. Seventy percent of the flowers sold during the year are bought for this occasion. It was a warm sunny day so we were dressed in shorts and T-shirts. When we arrived at the cemetery we wished the ground would have opened up and swallowed us. Everyone was in their Sunday best as we should have expected.
Yesterday morning was dry but by the afternoon it had started to rain. I'd emptied the shed out with the intention of doing some sorting out. I had to rapidly get everything back before it all got soaked.
We didn't make the mistake of going to the cemetery but I imagine that it was still packed with people offering flowers and lighting candles in spite of the rain.
