Following the correct procedure

Although there is no question as to the authenticity of the document that José Joaquín Moya signed, his resignation is not official and so he is still mayor of Bigastro. Inmaculada Martínez and Raúl Valerio Medina, lieutenants to the mayor, have both stated that the procedure to follow in a case such as this is not the one that Moya chose.

However, since Moya is in no position to act as mayor, the process of replacing him has begun. Martinez explains that she is working with her advisers and the Subdelegation of the Government to summon a short plenary session - probably within a week. At that meeting they will accept the resignation of José Joaquín Moya both as Mayor and as councilman.

There will then be a period of ten days to elect the new mayor followed by a second plenary session to approve that decision. Both Medina and Martinez are eligible but of course neither is looking forward to having to step into Moya's shoes in these circumstances.

Mateo Rodríguez Ortiz, first reserve on the list, will also join the Socialist group as councillor to replace Moya. .
