El fin de semana

You might think that the whole week is like a weekend for us now that we are retired. That is only partially true. Of course we no longer suffer from that Monday morning feeling - the one you get when you have to wake up early to go to work. It wasn't so bad in the summer months but in the winter when it was dark it was horrible. We used to hate it.

Pam and I do have a schedule. Each day there are specific things which we need to do; washing, cleaning, going to the post office, shopping, Spanish classes etc etc. Nothing gets done first thing though and we never try to do too much in one day. As I said, we don't get up in the dark anymore and as Pam's friend Kay says, "one task per day is plenty".

On those occasions when we have to be out for say 10am to visit the dentist we are edgy and irritable. Noon is a much better time for us. That gives me ample opportunity to write a couple of items for my blog and Pam time to get herself together. It makes for a more relaxed sort of day.

On Fridays, when we do the weekly shop, we aim to be there about 2pm when everyone is at home eating lunch because the other thing we don't do is busy roads. The first thing we notice when we visit England is the amount of traffic and we don't like it.

So the weekends are a time to relax and maybe potter about a bit in the garden. Without the pressure to cram all the household chores and the shopping into two days, weekends are a real treat.

Those of you who are retired like us will probably identify with all this. Those of you who are still working now know that there is a better life to come.
