Los toros at San Miguel

Having watched bullfighting in Madrid on television, we took the opportunity to visit a corrida last night. As part of the fiesta in San Miguel, they set up a temporary ring just outside the town by the road to Campamor.

Some regard fighting bulls on horseback as a lesser form of the real thing. They argue that there is little risk for the man because he is on top of a horse and there is little risk for the horse because he bull will always be slower. However, there is no denying the skill on a horse that these people exhibit.

Of the four bulls, the first was barely interested in the horse and made it difficult for the torero to put on a good show. The other three were much better, especially the second which provided a a good spectacle.

The President of the Corrida rather generously awarded five ears (one for the second, two each for the third and fourth bulls) which was probably four too many.
