New commercial centre on the coast

Approval has been given to build the “Parque Comercial Las Playa" . This new commercial centre will be located on the Orihuela Costa on a plot of land of about 245,000 square metres next to to the main connection between the AP-7, and theN332 at La Zenia.

The “Parque Comercial Las Playa", which has been designed by the North American company RTKL, will create 2,466 jobs. The company consider that the axis between Orihuela-Torrevieja-Murcia and Alicante is a suitable site for a new commercial centre of this type. They believe it will re-generate the area. They are in negotiations with Alcampo, Decathlon, Leroy Merlin along with other multinationals.

Once approval is given by the City council of Orihuela for re- parcelling the land, work can begin. It is expected that approval will be granted by the end of this year and that work will then start on construction at the beginning of 2009.

Let's hope this is a greater success than some other commercial centres which are struggling to keep customers interested. Whilst the Habaneras appears to be thriving, Ociopia in Orihuela, which is admittedly much smaller has fewer shops open each time we visit.
