Glued to their hands

Can anyone remember the time when nobody had a mobile phone?

Now it seems every adult along with a growing number of children has to have one and use it almost 24 hours a day. If the reported dangers of radiation from mobile phones are true, then the population is doomed.

In the Valencian Community, 65.8% of the 10 -15 year old children have a mobile phone, according to a survey of equipment and use of information technologies in the home.

Psychologist, Pedro Jiménez, says that “the abusive” use of this type of device can cause a “loss of the social abilities”. Children with mobile phones habitually text their friends rather than have a face to face conversations.

Vida Libre , the Alicante association for people affected by compulsive gambling and other addictions, urges parents to educate their children to make them aware of the dangers of over use of mobile phones. These children are not just making calls and sending texts; they are using their phones to connect to the Internet, to record videos, to play games etc. They are also receiving messages inviting them to participate in lotteries and other forms of gambling. Many spend all their savings on "top ups" just to keep their mobile phone going.

The Phone House says that 94.36% of mobile users in the Community choose a mobile phone with an integrated, 86.77% want a bluetooth connection and 72.23% demand an additional memory card .
