The Mayor of Orihuela, Monica Lorente invited the residents from Orihuela Costa to a pre-Christmas lunch last Sunday but the opposition party CLR suspect her motives.
They say that the party (free transport, drink and food) was to be all paid for out of local taxes. Further more, the party just happened to coincide with a pre-election function to weigh up support following the outbreak of the Brugal scandal. They describe it as a dirty trick to drum up support for the PP party.
To be fair, I think that the comment smacks of sour grapes on behalf of the CLR party. If people went and had a jolly good time and had to endure a bit of propaganda, then that was a small price to pay.
